No movement on budget Tuesday; Senate advances its own placeholder bill

Both legislative chambers continued to work on the budget Tuesday, with the only tangible progress seen in the Senate Appropriations Committee, which voted out a budget bill reflecting current year spending levels. The corresponding committee in the House did the same thing last week.

“We are just doing what we can do to advance the process and make sure we do our best to have a budget in place by June 30,” said Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-Delaware).

Governor: No new revenue without pension reform

Gov. Tom Corbett on Tuesday called legislators to task, saying he will not consider any new sources of revenue unless he sees a bill to reform Pennsylvania’s pension system.

“I told the leaders that I will not talk about revenue until we deal with cost drivers, and the pension [issue] is a cost driver. Let me see what you are going to do with pensions,” he said at a Tuesday news conference.
