Focus narrowing for Basic Education Funding Commission

Thursday, the Basic Education Funding Commission held its seventh hearing aimed to help in its mission to provide the legislature with a new basic education funding formula for consideration.

According to Commission Co-Chairman Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh), the focus of the commission is starting to narrow to common themes of concerns expressed at the hearings.

Senate leaders sue lame duck Corbett

As if the results from Tuesday’s election were not bad enough for Gov. Tom Corbett, he now has a much-anticipated lawsuit on his hands.

Tuesday, leaders from both the Republican and Democratic Caucuses in the Senate filed suit against Gov. Corbett, a number of cabinet officials, and Treasurer Rob McCord challenging the governor’s July line-item veto of certain parts of the Fiscal Code, General Appropriations Act of 2014, and moving certain funds into budgetary reserve.
