Medical marijuana to wait a little longer

Despite expected action on Senate Bill 3 this week, the bill that would legalize medical marijuana in Pennsylvania continued to wait in the Senate as that chamber continues to hold on to the bill as it decides whether to make changes and send it back to the House or send it to the governor as-is despite concerns over implementation.

Several sources this week told The PLS Reporter that changes considered by the Senate are being looked at by the House as more substantive and technical, which gives that chamber pause about whether they could take the legislation up again should the changes be made.

Medical marijuana’s future depends on whether changes are made by the Senate

While medical marijuana legalization legislation cleared a significant hurdle last week when the legislation passed the House with wide bipartisan support, that chamber is now saying the future of the legislation depends on whether the Senate decides to make changes to the bill that was amended with House preferences on legalization.

Senate Bill 3 passed the House last week by a 149-43 margin after two days of that chamber considering amendments to the legislation and lengthy debate on the legislation’s final passage.
