Department of Health declares hepatitis A outbreak after 171 new cases erupt

Sec. of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, announced on Monday afternoon that Pennsylvania will be joining 22 other states in declaring an hepatitis A outbreak. 

Since January 2018 there have been 171 cases of hepatitis A in 36 counties, with Philadelphia and Allegheny counties being hit the hardest.

Advocates, legislators call on the General Assembly for fair funding for urban schools

Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia Dr. William Hite joined legislators and other school superintendents to call on the General Assembly to allow more money for urban school districts. 

Hite stated that they are advocating for every student to be able to "attend a school that is free of hazards that could jeopardize their safety, health and well-being." He also noted that students should be able to attend a school that is fairly funded.
