Wolf announces intention to join regional cap-and-trade program

Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Thursday that the state will forge ahead with joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, despite pushback from Republicans who question whether Wolf can enter the multi-state emission-capping program without legislative approval.

 

Speaking at a Capitol press conference Thursday, Wolf outlined his directive to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to join the cap-and-trade program, also known as RGGI, which requires participating states to cap CO2 emissions at energy production plants.

City Council expand protections for trans citizens

Philadelphia City Council passed three bills Thursday to bolster protections for transgender and gender non-conforming citizens. 
 
Councilmember Helen Gym (D-At Large) introduced the legislation in September, which includes plans for new gender-neutral bathrooms in city buildings, new policies for dealing with youth, and new definitions of gender identity and sexual orientation for discrimination purposes. These protections come as federal regulations are being weakened.

Rep. Russ Diamond, Lebanon County DA join fray to earn Republican nod in SD 48

Nine candidates, including Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) and Lebanon County District Attorney Dave Arnold, are confirmed to be seeking the GOP nomination for the central Pennsylvania Senate seat vacated by the resignation of former Sen. Mike Folmer last month.

Diamond announced his candidacy Wednesday morning and an additional four candidates have been confirmed as of this morning, Lebanon County Republican Party Chair Casey Arnold said.
