Philadelphia’s mayoral candidates square off at CCP

Mayor Jim Kenney (D) met his two primary challengers Monday evening at a forum hosted by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists at the Community College of Philadelphia’s Center City campus. This was the first public face-off of the trio.

Journalists from print and broadcast outlets asked questions of Kenney, former city controller Alan Butkovitz, and state Sen. Anthony Williams (D-Philadelphia) one month before the May primary election.

Wolf signs bill naming the Eastern Hellbender the state amphibian

Gov. Tom Wolf joined Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland), Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Lycoming), members of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and other advocates for clean water to sign legislation that designates the Eastern Hellbender as Pennsylvania's state amphibian.

House Policy Committee focuses on nuclear bailout

Monday afternoon saw supporters of nuclear power and renewable energy square off in Springfield, Montgomery County. The House Policy Democratic Committee heard testimony regarding the controversial House Bill 11, which aims to add nuclear fission to the Pennsylvania’s alternative energy portfolio, keeping the state’s nuclear plants open and viable in the energy market.

The language the General Assembly is considering would effectively provide stipends of $500 million annually for nuclear power plants, to continue for at least six years without any specific end date. This is the first discussion that has included the public outside of the Capitol.
