Questions About Property Tax Elimination Bill Remain Despite Comprehensive Amendment

A Senate Finance Committee hearing on a comprehensive amendment to a bill that would eliminate school property taxes in Pennsylvania meted out one certainty: more questions about the proposal remain.

Sitting in front of the committee to explain the amendment to Senate Bill 76 was Senators Dave Argall (R-Schuylkill) and Mike Folmer (R-Lebanon), the main sponsors of the legislation.

Lottery Profit Margin Relief Bill Clears Committee

Tuesday morning the House Finance Committee unanimously voted out House Bill 2110 with amendment to be considered by the full House.

The legislation, which provides for so-called “margin relief,” lowers the required rate of return on profits from the Pennsylvania Lottery from 27 percent to 25 percent. The bill would also make the profit margin permanent.

An amendment adopted in committee makes the legislation apply to the coming fiscal year and makes permanent Lottery reporting requirements.
