Energy lobbying costs skyrocketed with introduction of nuclear power legislation

The Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Dauphin County is headed for premature retirement, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying from energy companies hoping to effect a legislative rescue.

As lawmakers in the Pennsylvania General Assembly grappled with bills that would add nuclear power to the state’s alternative energy portfolio to subsidize nuclear plants, nuclear energy companies greatly intensified their lobbying efforts in what was a likely attempt to get the legislation across the finish line.
