Child sexual abuse victim first case to sue under new circumstance allowing victims to file lawsuits outside of the statute of limitations

Another victim of child sexual abuse has come forward and is now suing the Harrisburg Roman Catholic Diocese. 

67-year-old Donald Asbee stated that he was repeatedly raped by two priests at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Milton, PA, while he was an altar boy. He alleged that the Harrisburg Roman Catholic Diocese and its bishops covered up the sexual abuse crisis within the Catholic Church.

VIDEO: DePasquale announces 244,000 students attend schools that lack proper child abuse reporting laws

Last fall, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale began checking school districts to see if they had updated their policies on reporting child abuse, and since then there have been 38 districts that have implemented new policies or updated their old ones. 

While 38 schools have implemented or updated their policies, DePasquale stated that there are still 244,000 students across the state who are in school districts without updated policies. One district, Susquenita School District in Perry County, was reported to have no policy in place as of February 1, 2019.

Sec. Miller joins advocates to announce Child Abuse Prevention Month in Pennsylvania

On Wednesday morning Secretary of the Department of Human Services Teresa Miller, joined members of the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance and other advocates to work towards a safer environment for children. 

Sec. Miller also presented a proclamation from Gov. Tom Wolf that designates April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Pennsylvania.
