Lawmakers unveil hate crimes legislation in the aftermath of the Tree of Life shooting

Outside of the Tree of Life synagogue, the site of an anti-semitic massacre last year, six lawmakers, flanked by survivors of the shooting, announced a package of legislation geared towards addressing hate crimes in the commonwealth Thursday afternoon.

Within the city, from the massacre itself to reports of nooses around dolls, lawmakers such as Rep. Dan Frankel (D-Allegheny) said they were increasingly concerned about the intolerant climate. Frankel told onlookers that is why it was time for a legislative action to protect vulnerable populations.
