Lawmakers push value of re-entry programs, criminal justice reform bills

A bipartisan cadre of lawmakers touted the importance of re-entry programs for former inmates at a Capitol news conference Monday, as a key lawmaker said she hoped to see a package of criminal justice reform bills pass the Senate by the end of the month.

Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-Washington), Sen. Art Haywood (D-Philadelphia), Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) and House Minority Whip Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia) led the press conference, flanked by former inmates who are now leading the criminal justice reform fight.

Senators aim to update state’s alternative energy portfolio with increased requirements, nuclear power

A bipartisan group of senators are hoping their respective bills will put Pennsylvania on the path to an alternative energy-powered future by updating the state’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards.
 
Senators Art Haywood (D-Montgomery), Tom Killion (R-Delaware) and Steve Santarsiero (D-Bucks) unveiled a bill that would increase the requirement of alternative energy sold in the state under Tier I of the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act (AEPS) from 8 percent to 30 percent.
