Senators cheer passage of 'Farming First' package, even as agencies express concerns about two bills

Senators cheered Wednesday the passage of a series of bills designed to boost Pennsylvania’s farming community, even as Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration has expressed opposition to two of the key measures.

The “Farming First” package cleared the Senate earlier this week, part of what Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-Centre) called a necessary way to help the state’s largest industry during a turbulent time.

As House approves child sex abuse bills, Senate Democrats present their competing proposal to reform statute of limitations

Efforts to reform the state’s statute of limitations for child sex abuse got more complicated Wednesday, as Senate Democrats unveiled a broader piece of legislation which includes a retroactive window for victims to file suit against their perpetrators and the institutions that shielded them.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro, along with four freshmen senators, led by Sen. Tim Kearney (D-Delaware) and Sen. Katie Muth (D-Montgomery), are pushing a bill which eliminates the criminal and civil statute of limitations for certain sex crimes against both minors and adults.
