Magna Carta and America’s legislatures

Magna Carta is the most important document in the history of America’s state and federal legislatures. This document is the foundation that over the centuries following its signing evolved into the basic principles’ of our American constitutional system. Without Magna Carta, there might be no legislatures as we know them today.

Yet Magna Carta is largely unknown to most of us. An agreement reached by English barons and their King eight centuries ago, it is possibly the most underappreciated document in our political heritage.

This year is the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta and an appropriate time to renew our appreciation of it.

"The natural gas industry has the potential to produce enough energy to substantially power our state, and much of the nation’s energy needs," Sen. Baker says in the article. "To accomplish that, the infrastructure for distribution is a significant element of investment, and all we have to do is look at the ability of Russia to turn the energy spigot on and off to Ukraine, Eastern and Western Europe to see that Pennsylvania can be an instrument of national power through export."
