Lawmakers participate in the annual Capitol All Stars Bat Grab

In an event as bipartisan as they come, House and Senate leaders gathered in the Rotunda Wednesday for the yearly Capitol All Stars Bat Grab, which allows winning captains to select two players of their choice for the annual Capitol All Stars Game in September.

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) and House Minority Leader Frank Dermody (D-Allegheny), captains of the Youse team, selected Rep. Jennifer O’Mara (D-Delaware) and Sen. Scott Martin (R-Lancaster), after Scarnati won the bat grab competition against Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny).

With late rally, Yinz defeats Youse in third Capitol All-Stars game

With late rally, Yinz defeats Youse in third Capitol All-Stars game

It was a tie game on the sodden gray evening at FNB Field in the seventh inning as Mike Turzai, Speaker of the House by day, co-skipper of Team Yinz by night, looked with some consternation to the scoreboard.

His team was undefeated, and opponent Team Youse hungry for victory. And with a tie game heading into the late innings, it could swing either way.

But then with the clairvoyance of an old baseball hand, he calmly explained exactly what he needed to claim victory.

“Donna Oberlander has to come through,” Turzai said. “Tommy Sankey has to come through.”
