“Let us stand strong together”: Inside Philadelphia and the southeast’s ascension in the House Democratic caucus

It was an opportunity too good to pass up.

As House Democratic leadership elections approached November 13, two of the top positions, Whip and Appropriations Chair, sat open due to retirements of their Western Pennsylvania holders. Meanwhile, Caucus Chair also was vacant as its holder maneuvered for a higher position.

Local attorney named as Dean's replacement for state house race

Members of the state Democratic Committee have selected Ben Sanchez as their new candidate in the solidly blue 153rd Legislative District.

Sanchez, a local real estate attorney and CPA, was picked unanimously by the committee after previous office holder Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Montgomery) dropped out of one of the two electoral races she was in.

In round two of the House Judiciary Committee’s gun votes this week, two contentious, party-splitting decisions were each decided by a single vote.

A bump stock ban passed out of committee, but universal background checks failed to garner a majority.
