Evankovich to resign seat in August

After eight years in the House, Rep. Eli Evankovich (R-Westmoreland) is stepping down in August.

Evankovich, who already announced after his reelection in 2016 that he wasn’t running again, is retiring a few months early to join a Western Pennsylvania manufacturing company. The company was not specified.

House remains torn on what to do to combat gun violence

House members discussed potential legislation that limits access to guns and there was no consensus during the fifth gun policy public hearing Tuesday. 

House Bill 1400, the background check bill and House Bill 194, legislation that would ban assault weapons, got the most criticism from Rep. Rick Saccone (R- Allegheny) and Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks).
