Keeping Up with the Neighbors: Referendum keeps redistricting reform moving in Ohio

Previously the PLS Reporter assessed Maryland’s gerrymandering controversy, in which Republicans are seeking to overturn what they believe to be a partisan Democratic gerrymander through the courts. 

Another Pennsylvania neighbor, meanwhile, took the issue of Congressional redistricting to the ballot box earlier last month. Ohio, which itself has a gerrymandering case making its way through the judicial process, passed a referendum measure on May 8 known as State Issue One. It amends the state constitution to establish a process for creating political districts that would require bipartisan support.
