Legislators, PSEA members support raising teacher salary minimums

Members of PSEA joined Sen. Judy Schwank (D-Berks), Rep. Tarah Tohill (R-Luzerne) and Rep. Kyle Mullins (D-Lackawanna) at a press conference, where they discussed their support for raising the minimum teacher salary in Pennsylvania to $45,000.

Currently Pennsylvania has a minimum teacher salary of $18,500 which hasn't been updated in more than 30 years.

State Police, education groups say they don’t support arming teachers

Out of the seven public school employees that testified at Thursday’s school safety hearing, only two said they were supportive of the idea of arming teachers.


The Pennsylvania State Police also are not fans of the idea.


The House Education Committee hosted the public forum in response to the Parkland shooting.
