Inspired by Colorado, Pennsylvania looks at anonymous school violence tip line

From rural Texas to suburban Florida, the rash of school shootings in 2018 has brought increasing safety to the front of lawmakers’ minds.

But in the wake of the progenitor of the modern mass school shooting — Columbine — one state implemented a seemingly effective response that Pennsylvania is now trying to take up.

State Police, education groups say they don’t support arming teachers

Out of the seven public school employees that testified at Thursday’s school safety hearing, only two said they were supportive of the idea of arming teachers.


The Pennsylvania State Police also are not fans of the idea.


The House Education Committee hosted the public forum in response to the Parkland shooting.

The PA SAFE Caucus outlined legislation aimed at gun reform during a Wednesday press conference, exactly a month after the Parkland school shooting.


“It’s time to save lives through sensible gun regulation,” Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Montgomery) , co-chair of the caucus, said.
