Special Election Preview: Joe Pittman vs. Susan Boser for the 41st Senate District

Special Election Preview: Joe Pittman vs. Susan Boser for the 41st Senate District

On May 21, two candidates will face off in a special election for the 41st Senate District seat vacated by former Sen. Don White (R-Indiana) at the beginning of this session. Vying for the seat are candidates Joe Pittman, White’s longtime chief-of-staff, and Susan Boser, a professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).

The two candidates have focused their campaigns on improving economic opportunities in the 41st district, which features portions of Butler, Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland counties in western Pennsylvania. But while their end goals are quite similar, the two candidates have some different methods for their plans on improving prosperity and economic conditions in the district.

VIDEO: The PLS Reporter sits down with Sen. White before retiring next week

The PLS Reporter sat down with Sen. Don White (R-Indiana) who came to Harrisburg in 2001 after having no interest in being a politician or even in politics. But after tragedy struck at home, White wanted a change so he campaigned and managed to flip what was a Democratic seat for 40 years.

White is retiring after spending nearly a quarter of his life in the Senate and he said he hopes somebody younger will replace him, possibly even his chief of staff.
